Students in Transition

Who is Eligible?

Families or youth who lack a permanent, regular, adequate, fixed place to sleep. The families or youth could be living:

  • With relatives or friends (including grandparents)
  • In an emergency shelter or transitional shelter
  • In a motel, hotel, RV park or campground
  • Awaiting foster care
  • In cars, parks, abandoned buildings or bus/train stations


What Can SIT Do For You?

The Students In Transition Program "SIT" works with students and/or their family to eliminate the barriers to education, attendance and success. SIT provides the following:

  • A Liaison to support the family through the registration process until the end of the school year.
  • Immediate school enrollment
  • Assistance in gathering pertinent documents i.e. birth certificate, immunization records, etc.
  • School fees
  • Free lunch program
  • Connection to Tutoring
  • School supplies
  • Information/help with transportation
  • Clothes for school
  • After school programs
  • Referrals to numerous community resources
