Academic Excellence
Students must have 24 credits to graduate from a high school in the BPS district.
23% of our high school juniors and seniors are in the National Honor Society (grade B or better).
91% of high school seniors plan to pursue higher education (4 year, 2 year, or tech. college).
11 Advanced Placement (AP) course offerings: biology, calculus (2), chemistry, computer science, English 11 & 12, government, physics, psychology, and U.S. history. Credits transfer to colleges/universities level upon successful test completion.
High school seniors consistently score above state and national averages on the ACT.
Students in grades 4, 8, and 11 consistently score about state and national averages on the ND State Assessment in math and reading.
20% of BPS seniors earned Presidential Academic Awards in 2011-2012 for maintaining A- or higher grade point averages and 85th percentile or above scores on a national achievement test.

The drop out rate for seniors in 2011-2012 was 1.8% or 46 students. The cohort drop out rate for students in grades 9-12 was 11%.
The percent of attendance in '11-12 was 96.7%.
All schools are Accredited with Commendation by the N.D. Department of Public Instruction, as well as accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges & Schools.
A number of schools have been named "Blue Ribbon" schools--the highest state and national honor: Highland Acres and Northridge Elementary Schools, Horizon Middle School, and Bismarck and Century High Schools.

History
We've been in the education business for 139 years, since 1873. First graduating class of two was in 1887; in May 2012, 806 seniors graduated.
The oldest building is part of Bismarck High School (1934); the newest elementary school is Sunrise (2010). A new Career Academy also opened in 2010.
